• Glen Affric

Leaving the car at the end of the Affric road, the 9 mile walk into the hostel at Allbeithe is both a joy and a toil. The scenery is glorious beyond and the silence of the glen palpable. the initial two thirds of the walk in is on good estate road: broad, smooth and forgiving while the remaining third stony, narrow, wet and hard on the feet. All is forgiven when the hostel is reached enclosed by a fine surround of mountains that seem to close in on the walker offering a warm embrace and forever drawing the eyes upwards.

The hostel itself, often seen from the summits of the peaks to the south is a delight - an oasis of comfort amidst such rugged beauty. The base for the climbs to these remote summits
