• Dales Way: Burnsall to Grassington

Beginning a Winter ramble is a delight beyond. When the air is still and laden with such cold that breath hangs in the air, reflections on water intensify and every step on an icy path is both a trial and a triumph. This short section of The Dales Way provides all of these and more culminating at the last major settlement on the way east of the watershed.

Beginning at the bridge next to The Red Lion the path proceeds along the river bank allowing wheelchair access for a reasonable distance along a beautifully calm stretch of water flowing at a unhurried pace that creates the same feeling in the walker 'asked' to linger awhile and enjoy the environs. Though much of the time is spent within 'spitting distance' of the river, the high hills loom above cloaked in a dusting of snow and creating an ethereal sensation that stays for the duration of the walk to Grassington.
